Blogged Much?

Somehow I keep slacking in my blogging.  I think of all the things I need to do a post on, and then get too busy to get it posted!  HA!  So, I'm really going to try to get caught up on this here blog.  If I don't, I'll forget all the great things I wanted to remember!

So, today I'll leave you with a quick story that made me laugh!

I know by now, most of you have figured out how silly Caroline is, so here is your Friday Funny.

I pick her up from school on Wednesday and she hands me this folded up piece of notebook paper.  Of course, my 1st thought is that some stinky boy {just kidding} wrote her a note!  She tells me she needs me to take her to the address on the paper.  So, I look at her like she's crazy, and she starts laughing.  It's the address of one of her little friends, and they've decided that they, plus 2 other little girls are starting a business, and I need to take her to the little girls house to get started!

So when I ask her what this business is, she tells me that they are going to have a make-up & hair stand!  HA!  They'll have a 4 stations:  hair, make-up, nails, and perfume.  Each thing costs a quarter!  I'm telling you, she had me laughing so hard!  She told me about how they planned to mix lotions with glitter for the perfume station, and that they were going to mix their own lipstick colors.

When we got home, I told Tab that he needed to hear her business plan.  After she got done telling him all about it, she proudly announced that, "Hey, it's free enterprise".

My guess is that they must be learning about businesses in class!

Let's hope her make-up skills have improved!

The Alternate

The last two weeks have been ex.haus.ting to say the least!  Caroline has been sick for the past two weeks, and last week she tested positive for strep...uggghhhh!  Not only do I hate to see my girl sick and hurting, but with it comes days of staying home from work, sleepless nights, and just plain old worrying.

But I think she's finally 100% again!

Tonight after dinner we were going through her backpack, checking her folders for missed work from last week.  Yea, I know...I should have done this earlier in the weekend instead of Sunday night at 7:30!  Parent of the year, that's me.  Anyhow, we got sidetracked and after she got done getting ready for bed and all tucked in, I went back to going through the papers.  I was hoping to find information about her upcoming UIL competition; she's doing Storytelling.  And then I see something no parent wants to see.  The envelope.  You know, the one that says, "To the parents of ....".  I was thinking, great...what am I in trouble for?  Because I knew that she hadn't been in any trouble!  LOL!  So I tell the hubs to come over to where I'm at so we can open it.  I pull out the slip of paper and it says, "Your child, Caroline, has been selected as the alternate for the UIL competition in Storytelling".  Uh oh.  We just kinda looked at each other like, well, Uh Oh! I knew she didn't know anything about it because we had been talking about the competition earlier.  I was soooo scared of telling her.  I just knew she would be crushed.

So we decide we would go in and talk to her about it before she got to school tomorrow and found out.  I sit down on her bed and tell her that I got a note home about the competition and that I had some bad news, that she was going to be the alternate.  She smiles at me and says, "Yesssss"!  Huh?  I was a little confused.  I said, "you wanted to be the alternate?", and she said, "yes, that way if I freeze up, my score won't count".

Tab and I both just started laughing.  I couldn't believe what I was hearing!  LOL!  She was afraid she would get up there and be nervous!  She said that being the alternate was great because she still got to compete, just with "no pressure".  Sometimes she throws me for a loop.  I was so sure she was going to be so upset she was chosen as the alternate, and then she tells us she's happy she's the alternate!  She definitely keeps me on my toes!

A Proposal

I always knew my life was comical, but this week it was taken to a new level.  About 3 weeks ago, Steven {Caroline's Daddy} called to tell us he got a puppy.  The puppy was going to be for his girlfriend, Andrea, and he was going to hide it from her until he proposed.  Why is this comical?  Because every weekend when she drove down to spend the weekend with him, we had to dog sit so she didn't see the puppy!

His whole plan with the puppy and proposal was to drive up to Dallas one weekend, and take her to DFW airport to watch the planes take off at night.  Sounds weird right?  Not really...they have a place up there where people can drive up and park to watch the planes at night.  They'd been planning to do this for sometime and haven't gotten the chance, so he thought it would be a great setup for the big question!  He'd planned on having one of his friends take Caroline and the puppy out there secretly and have Caroline let the puppy go running towards them with the ring tied around his neck.

He hasn't had the chance to get up there, so she's been coming down here on the weekends instead.  Caroline and I had been warning him that one day she was going to drive down and surprise him and she would see the puppy since she has a key to his apartment, but he didn't believe us!  Ha, he should have!

Thursday night Caroline had a musical at church, we were pressed for time, and Steven calls in a panic!  Andrea was on her way down! Hahaha!  He had to think fast and asked if we could watch the dog.  Then he calls me back and decides that he is just gonna have to propose that night.  He was actually planning on driving up there that night!  So he asks me if I can bring the puppy and Caroline up to the Suspension Bridge after the musical.  What?  Let me get this straight.  You want your ex-wife to deliver the puppy and ring to you so you can propose to your future wife?  Hahaha!  And at first I just laugh at the oddity of me doing this, but then I just kind of ask him if he's sure that would be a good idea.  After I agree, we then decide that I'll hide and take pictures of the whole thing!!!!  I told you, my life is comical!

I come home, get the puppy and ring, and head to the bridge.  When we get there, Caroline is just supposed to walk out a few feet, where she can't be seen , let the puppy with ring around his neck go, and come back to me.  At which point Steven will whistle to the puppy and he will come running to them...ya, not so much!  Caroline gets out there, lets the puppy go, and he runs right back to us.  So I tell her to go a little farther.  Again, he comes right back to us.  This went on for a few minutes and amazingly Andrea never saw any of it!  Finally, Caroline has to walk all the way over to them, hand the puppy to Steven and runs back to me!  Of course at this point I start snapping away, and Andrea now knows we are there!

All in all, it was sweet, but I did feel really weird imposing on their special moment!  Andrea didn't care one bit though, and even came over to hug and thank me afterwards!

I really did feel like I was intruding on the special moment, so after I finished taking the last shot, I was trying to round up Caroline so we could head home.  The next morning Andrea invited me to go to lunch with her, thanked me again for my help with pulling it off, and then she asked me if I would take their engagement photos.  I was shocked, flattered and a little unsure of whether I should do it or not.  In the end, I decided that yes, I would take their pictures.  If I was there for the proposal, why not go ahead and take their engagement photos?

All of our friends {ours & theirs} think that it's so strange that we all get along, and believe me I do to, but I guess that in then end, we're all stuck with each other for the rest of our lives {LOL!}, so why not make the best of it?  Trust me, Steven still drives me crazy, and I'm sure he always will, but our marriage didn't end because one of us did something to each other, we both realized that we just didn't love each other, and staying together just wasn't what was best for us or Caroline.  So the least we can do for Caroline is not fight over stupid things, enjoy her, and if that means being around/in each others lives than oh well.

It's weird, it's odd, it's comical, but it makes Boog happy!

Independence Day

*****I'm highly ticked off at Blogger right now!  I had most of this post done, then *poof*....nothing was there, it was gone!!!!  So I'm gonna try and get it together again.*****

I hope everyone had a great Independence Day!!  I love this holiday, it just screams American!  HaHa!  I think we forget where we came from sometimes, and the 4th of July just brings that all back.  The hot & lazy summer days, flags flying, kids playing in the sprinklers, cookouts with family and friends...I could go on and on!  I have a deep love for little old towns, all that they are and all they represent.  I love Americana; the culture, the meaning, the passion.  I must move on or I'll keep going on and on about it!

We didn't really have any plans this year, we were supposed to go be with some friends, but those plans changed!  We took advantage of that and just invited my parents over for a good ole' fashioned 4th of July cookout and fireworks in the yard!  Burgers and hotdogs, deviled eggs, baked beans, homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade peach cobbler!  Yummy!!!  And I won't even talk about all the fireworks we had!  CRAZY!!!!!

This cracks me up!!! Notice all the cell phones!!!!

See, I was there too!

Yummy, Yummy!

Caroline & Daisy Mae

This is my sweet Bloodhound, Daisy Mae...isn't she just precious?

Steven {Caroline's daddy} wanted to come and spend the day with her too so he and a friend joined us, and then once his girlfriend got off work she joined us too.  After we pigged out, we sat on the front porch for a while and just enjoyed the evening.  Then we got to business with the fireworks!  Unfortunately, my parents didn't get to stay for the fireworks, and boy did they miss it!

I have to admit, we were not as careful, uh hmmm, as we should be when shooting fireworks, so kids don't ever do anything that you read here!!!!

It really started out very innocently, I promise!  But right out of the gate we had an injury, but only a minor one!  Tab set up an artillery shell and a rocket, he lit them and we all sat back to enjoy...until we heard Steven scream like a little girl!!!  Here's the conversation that took place:

Andrea: {laughing hysterically "that's what he gets, that's funny!"
Tab: "o man, are you bleeding?"
Steven: "yea a little"
Andrea: "well that parts not too funny"...{but she's still laughing}!
And yes, I was laughing the whole time.  It really was just too funny!!

Oddly enough, I caught Tab lighting the Artillery Shell and the Rocket before it hit Steven!!!!!

The Aftermath

After we all stopped laughing, we kept shooting fire works, and then Steven decided he would get revenge.  He lit a Saturn Missile, turned it sideways where it was pointing at our chairs.  Needless to say we found ourselves being shot at with little flaming fireballs {that was a little redundant I know!}

We waited a little while, then Andrea and I got our revenge on the boys!!!  Tab had been lighting Black Cats and throwing them at Andrea, and Steven had his fun with the Saturn Missile, so we had a plan.  My favorite fireworks of all times are Roman Candles, so I always get a ton of them.  We lit them and started to make them dodge out of the way!  During the whole thing, Andrea had a little chant she said, "Dance Tab, Dance"!!!!!  I cannot tell you how funny this was!  But we were very careful to not actually hit the guys!  Seeing them jump around like that was seriously one of the best laughs I've had all year!  After that we settled down and just enjoyed the fireworks we had!

Hopefully everyone had as good a time as we did!

Give a Girl a Minute

We all have those moments when our kids momentarily stun us with the things they say, but it still makes me speechless every dang time!  A few weeks ago, Boog was in the tub {taking her sweet time} and I told her she needed to get a move on.  I leave and go do something else, I was piddling for probably 10 minutes or so.  I thought, Okay, where is she?  I go back and check on her, and she's just singing her little heart out while she's washing her hair.

I simply remind her to hurry up.  She says okay and I keep on doing stuff around the house.  It was getting closer and closer to the time we needed to leave, so I started to change my clothes and get ready.  I'm  just about done...dressed, teeth brushed, dogs taken care of...now for Boog.

I walk into the bathroom to see what is taking her sooooo long to get out of the tub.  She's standing in the tub dancing while she has her "poof" in her hand washing her arms.  I'm cracking up, but we have got to get a move on, so I tell her {in my Mommy Means Business voice} that she needs to get her cute little dancing hiney out of the tub and get dressed.

She turns to me, puts a hand on her hip and says, " Ughhh mom!  Give a girl a minute!!!".

I thought I was going to pee in my pants I was laughing so hard at her.  Seriously.  It was so unexpected, and I never imagined something like that coming out of her mouth, at least not for another 6 or so years!

She refused to brush her hair after she got out, so this is what it looked like after it dried!

So, come on...tell me something your kids have said that threw you into the giggles.

The Rooster

Oh....dear sweet Caroline....what were you thinking?  I know you were trying to be a big girl and fix a problem, but please, please don't ever do that again!

She got a stretchy bracelet stuck in her hair, and bless her heart, she trien to get it out.  When she couldn't, she got panicked, and grabbed her scissors out of her art supplies and cut her hair to get it out.  I think she learned her lesson!  She has a new nickname...The Rooster.

Doctors Say the Darndest Things

Moms have a really tough job...but you probably already knew that. I've always known it too, but it has become glaringly apparent lately. There's a lot of things I remember from my childhood, the way my parents did things, the things I did, so forth and so on. But I seem to have forgotten a few things!

About 5 days ago, Boog was in the tub, and I was folding laundry {gasp!} in the living room. She calls for me to come in there. When I get in there, she says something that 1) made me want to pee in my pants, and 2) shocked me speechless.

"Mommy, my nipple hurts."

Dead silence from me, while I decide whether I'm going to pee in my pants laughing, or ask her to repeat herself because surely I have misunderstood her.

"Mommy, did you hear what I said?"

"Ummm....yea. But what do you mean it hurts?"

"There's a bump under it and it HURTS!"

"Okay baby, let me see."

At this point I am now looking her over trying to see if there is anything visible...nope. So I ask her if it itches, thinking maybe she has an insect bite or something. Nope. So basically, I just tell her to leave it alone and maybe it will go away. No such luck. Everyday since she has continued to tell me that it hurts. She then asks when I'm going to take her to the doctor. At this point, I notice it is slightly pinker than the other one. Great....what now?

I watch, I wait and I try my best to ignore that she has a knot under her, you know nipple. That just sounds so wrong.

Yesterday morning she was really begging me to call the doctor. I honest to God was doing my best to avoid this! I mean what do you say to the receptionist when she asks what the visit is for? "Ummm, well, you see my 6 year old daughter has a knot under her nipple?" I decide to call. But I'll be honest with y'all...I lied to the receptionist. Yep I did! I wanted to have her ears checked because she keeps saying "huh" all the time, so I just used that as my reason. I just couldn't bring myself to say the other. It just sounds so ridiculous.

When the doctor walked in this afternoon and asked what the visit was about, I told him about her ears, and then the other thing. He immediately smiles and starts to laugh! Great, he thinks I'm crazy! He takes a quick look and then continues to laugh! I am mortified. I can never show my face here again. Then he said the darndest thing..."we see this all the time". Huh? Not what I was expecting to hear! He then proceeds to tell me that she has a breast bud. Yea, that's right, a breast bud. Now this is definitely not something that I remember from my childhood. "This is completely normal for her age"...what? What rock do I live under that I have never heard of this? He explained it all to me, and told me not to worry that she shouldn't get any "boobs" for years to come. It's just her little body getting started. I think he gave me a mini heart attack.

But now I want to know, from all of you, if any of you have experienced this as moms. She's 6 for goodness sakes! Have any of you moms gone through this with your daughters? Do you remember going through this yourself?

Shoes!

Trina...this is for you girl!

Yesterday Trina and I both posted about shoes {well I more just mentioned my shoes!}, and told her how funny that was. She made a little video about her favorite shoes, and after we got to talking, I told her I would do one of all my shoes...if you've never been to Trina's blog, Fabulously Frugalicious, go NOW {after you finish up here of course!}, she is a doll, and is a lot of fun!

Now, this is a warning: please excuse my accent, and my appearance! I was not about to get all gussied up to make this after a long day of work lol, and I hate to be in front of the camera talking, so I tend to make some funny faces...quite embarrassing! Don't laugh too hard!

I know, I know...it seems so awful to have so many shoes, and your right! But just to redeem myself a little tiny bit, I do donate all of our clothes and shoes to charities when I clean out everything. I look for great bargains, and I like all shoes, not just expensive ones!

Which One is Not Like the Other?

Sometimes, I just can't stop laughing! Poor Shimmer, I can't believe she lets Caroline do such crazy stuff to her! And she must have laid just like that for an hour...Caroline said it was "Nap time".

Scary Girl

Caroline....she was being a scary cat. Hilarious! After a week of not playing she got the chance to resume her silly antics. And I was almost driven over the edge when she was still awake at 11:30 Saturday night. And then again at 7am Sunday morning when she came in to tell husband and I she was ready for her breakfast. Oh...to have that energy again.

She Must Have Had a Bowl of Sugar

Ever have one of those days when you pick your precious child up from school/daycare/somewhere and you just can't wait to see how their day was, love on them and just go home to spend time with them? Yeah, well I do, and I know you do too!

I didn't sleep well the night before, and when I'm having a bad day, I love me some Caroline! She just makes me smile, and warms my heart with all her antics. So as I'm on my way to pick her up from school, I was thinking about what she and I could do together when we got home. Cook dinner, maybe make cupcakes {bad for the mommy who is trying to be healthier!}, read together, you get the idea.

I park, walk in, and she is running full force to greet me. What a great feeling...until she hits me with her head full on in the tummy. UGGGHH! Gee sweetie, I love you too! I know she wasn't being mean, but darn it, it was unpleasant to say the least!

As we are getting to the car, one of our friends pulls up to pick up her daughter, and Caroline assaults her too. Geesh kid, calm down! We talk for a few minutes while Caroline {who I am now holding} lays her head on my shoulder giving me the cuddles that I so wanted! Then, it all abruptly comes to an end.

Kim goes to get her daughter, and as we are saying goodbye, Caroline says, "can I have this {holding up a sucker}?" I reply, " no baby, you can have it after you eat dinner". This is usually my response when she wants to eat junk after school. This is what happened next:

Caroline: But I want it now! {screaming and whining}

Me: I said no, you can have it after dinner, or not at all.

Caroline: Ughgh! Oh, yea, I want it so I can have it. {imagine all the sass in the world here}

Me: I said NO! And if I hear you talk like that to me again, guess what you get?

Caroline: My mouth washed out. {barely audible}

Me: Wanna try your luck?

Caroline: No ma'am. Here. {handing me the sucker}

She was pretty quiet on the ride home since she new she had royally messed up. We get in the house, and she drops her stuff in the floor, and heads to let the dogs in. From that point on, she was literally bouncing off of things. We could not believe her stinking energy. She never slowed down. No time to love on momma, just go, go, go. She must have had a bowl of sugar. We had dinner, called her cousin to wish her a happy birthday, took her bath, and off to bed she went.

Only then does she look up at me and ask if I will lay down and read to her. I crave to cuddle with her, but I can't tell if she means it, or if it's another stall tactic, so I stick to my guns and say not tonight, you took too long in the tub. She didn't complain too much, so I turned off the lights and left. She was out in less than than 5 minutes.

Maybe she'll slow down enough tonight to give her momma some time with her!

I Need a Recorder

Seriously, I do The hubby has the worst memory ever! The worst. I just have to laugh at him now, because I used to get so mad when I would have to repeat plans, or a story to him. Yesterday, I ask him to go get me some paper work that needed to be mailed off. He gets it and tries to hand it to me, but my hands are full, so I just tell him to put it in my purse {which is sitting right next to me}.

He just called. Wanted to check on a few things. He needed to make sure that I had the paperwork for the truck. I just sat on the phone silent. After a few seconds, I said yes, I had the paperwork, did he not remember putting it in my purse? Of course he didn't.

I just started cracking up.....men, and their selective hearing/memories....................

What do ya do? I just laugh. Otherwise I might walk around a little agitated all the time!

M-O-M-M-Y

I have a new name......M-O-M-M-Y. Yes, that's right, Caroline is so proud that she is learning to read and spell things that she has resorted to spelling mommy when she wants to talk to me.

Now its not like spelling mommy is something new for her, she's been doing it since she was 3, I think she could write mommy before she could right her own name. But for some reason, she thinks its really "cool" to spell it out when she is talking to me.

This morning, as I am getting ready, she walks into my bedroom and says, "M-O-M-M-Y, can I have cereal for breakfast?" Children can be so goofy. I just started cracking up, it was just too funny to see her standing there in her jammies with her crazy morning hair spelling mommy!

Here are a few other examples of her spell-a-thon:

*When she is talking to Tab, she'll say, "hey T-A-B"
*She calls Avery, A-V-E-R-Y girl
*She tells me that the wood-burning stove is H-O-T
*When we get close to a stop sign its, "M-O-M-M-Y you need to S-T-O-P"
*And if we are going to a store it's, "are they O-P-E-N?"

Have I ever told y'all how much I love her? More than words...

Seriously...my bra broke!?!?!

Men totally take for granted how easy it is to be a man, really they do. Do they:

1. Have to worry about fixing there hair?
2. Shave their arm pits and legs?
3. Put on make-up {because lets face it, we all can't go without}?
4. Matching their accessories?
5. Have the visit of the most evil thing every month?
6. Go to the bathroom sitting down {always}?
7. Paint their toenails?
8. Wear panty hose {okay, this one is slighty unfair....I can NOT remember the last time I wore hose}
9. Carry a baby 9 months then labor & birth it?
10. Wear a bra?

I'm not usually this resentful towards men. Only once a month. But as I am sitting in a meeting yesterday afternoon talking about website redesign, I reach up and rather nonchalantly go to adjust my bra {which was stabbing me in the side of my boob} when I feel it rip. Yes I said RIP!!! I seriously wanted to scream. I am sitting in a room with 3 guys, and my bra breaks....great. Now the only positive thing about this is that it didn't completely rip. You know the little piece of fabric in the middle {in the front}, well one side of that ripped away from the underwire. So at least I still am "contained".

When I get back to my office I text the hubby to tell him of my misfortune and ask him if he can get Boog so I can run to Victoria's Secret. What does he do? He calls me laughing.

Thanks honey, I needed that.

So not only am I worried that in the next hour it will totally rip and unleash me, but I have to go spend another $48 bucks on a good bra, all the while my husband is laughing at me.

Men have it so easy.

25 July 2008

Just another Monday Night...

Sorry....a little delay there for me, but I completely forgot to post this, and I found it comical, at least it will be for those of you who don't live with us!

This past Monday was just another Monday night, or so I thought!

Sunday after church Caroline wanted to play with Avery, so she called, and Avery was on her way to her Gigi's (grandma's) so Amy said that they could play on Monday when they both got home from school. As soon as I get to school to pick Boog up, she starts asking about playing with Avery. So she calls on the way home and gets the voicemail, leaves her message and then proceeds to pout. Next she tries her hardest to convince me to stop on the way home at Avery's (just so everyone knows, she lives next door!) so she can see if they are home.

I tell you this child never gives up! Once she has something in her head, that's it, she is determined to make it happen!

Once I get her home, without stopping at Avery's, and after she has yelled and cried, I give her a snack and tell her to go play. She wants to call again! I said no, which brings on more yelling and tears, which result in a pop on the hiney and some time in the corner for yelling at me.

I start on dinner, and let me tell you this child can eat! She is always starving, and she eats everything. I swear I have the healthiest 5 year old eater around. Back to dinner, so I get it started and the phone rings....it's Avery. Thank God! But oh no, I hear tears, and then I hear her say "but your mommy said we could play today", I think.....great.....what do I do now? Caroline then comes to tell me that she can't play, and that Avery hung up on her. More tears!

I try my best to console her, which just isn't working. And then she starts demanding dinner that she is hungry......again more yelling at me and crying. So we go for round 2 of the pop and corner routine.

Finally dinner is finished, and I am just about to give her her plate when the phone rings again. Avery. She wants to talk to me. Apparently, Caroline was so upset during the 1st call from Avery, that she never heard her say, my mommy says you can come play. She wants to know where Caroline is! UGGGHHHH! So I tell her she can go play for 2 hours. It's 6:30. I want her home in time to bathe her and put her to bed by 9, even though she usually goes to bed at 8:30, I am going to give her an extra 30 minutes since this afternoon has been so traumatic for her.

Oh, and by the way, she now refuses to eat her dinner.

When its time to go pick her up, they start asking if Caroline can spend the night. We tell them no, that I am up earlier than Amy is in the morning, and that since Amy has to go to work too, she won't have time to drop Caroline off at school. Our brilliant 5 years olds then say, well then can we sleep at Alicia's house? Amy & I roll our eyes and say sure why not? We give them the rules: as soon as we get home its bath time, then teeth brushing time, then straight to bed. No playing, no movies, just plain old sleep. They both agree.

Off we go. We get scrubbed, brushed, and dressed for bed, get them down, and take a relaxing breath. Whhheeeewwwww. The door opens. Avery has tears running down her face. So does Caroline. Avery wants to go home and sleep with her mommy. Caroline is devastated. Tab is sitting on the couch laughing.

Now my first thought is that I wish I had something handy to throw at him. I get Avery in the car, and leave Caroline wailing at home with Tab...revenge can be so sweet! I get home, she is still crying, I lay down with her and rub her back. She sobs, and sobs. I finally leave.

I get a large glass of wine and call it a night!

No more Monday's like that please.

Hope you have all enjoyed my dreadful day.

Much love-
Alicia
