Sock Bun Saturday

It's Saturday!  And I don't have a thing to do. Ha!  Which means I can catch up on stuff and check a few things off my list.

One of which is a sock bun tutorial.  I posted a pic on IG last week and got some requests for a tutorial...I did my best.  More on that soon.

I've been hung up on sock buns for a while now.  I'm the girl who hates perfectly coiffed hair.  I like it messy.  The sock bun and me, well it's a match made in heaven.  I like the tousled look, not to say that those of you with every strand in place don't look fabulous, I just don't go for that look often, I think messy hair suits me better.

Since I've lost weight, my jeans have become a huge {literally} problem.  Nothing seems to look right.  I can't find a fit that I'm happy with.  In comes 11 year old fashionista daughter.  She insists that I try some skinny jeans.  Ugh.  I am totally not built for skinny jeans.  But I gave it a go.  I love them.

What the what?  I love skinny jeans?

Yep, I sure do.  Now granted, they still make me a little self conscious, but when compared to my normal Gap Long & Leans, they do make me look smaller.  I didn't realize how much bulk they added to my legs until I saw a pic of me in the skinny jeans.  I now own 2 pair of skinnies.

And yes, they're Gap too.  I have a thing for Gap jeans.  Mine are the 1969 destructed always skinny

And then there's my Toms.  I think most people either love them or hate them.  I love all the options there are.  Any color, any pattern...makes me happy.  I got these super cute Brown Metallic Herringbone Toms for Christmas and wear them all the time.  Love me some herringbone!

Okay y'all, I've stalled enough.  I said there was a tutorial and I need to just bite the bullet and not worry about how silly I look doing this. Ha!

Fun{ky} Filled Fridays

Since I've had a rough go of it for the last week, I was thinking about things that make me happy, ya know, to make me smile as I roll off the couch to get to a standing position.  And I thought it might be fun to do a post about some of my favorite things.

We all have things that take us to our happy place.  Here are a smidge of mine.
_______________________________________________________________

Sunflowers y'all.  They just scream happy.  I've always loved them.  In fact, when I married Caroline's dad, we got married in Magen's Bay, St. Thomas and the flowers offered were all tropical.  I was having none of it.  My sweet daddy had sunflowers flown in from the states for me.  Don't worry though when I married my sweetie pie hubby, I used the next best thing Gerberas ;)

Starbucks decaf white chocolate mocha with hazelnut.  Enough said.  Makes me all warm & fuzzy!

My Bible.  No explanation really needed on this one.  It's a go to when I need comfort, truth and advice.  It never fails me.

A good hot bath.  Nothing makes me feel better, more relaxed or more comforted.  I can literally sit in there for hours.

Chanel No. 5.  My mom was a firm believer in each woman having their own signature scent.  When I was 16 she took me to Neiman Marcus to find mine.  And she had rules.  It couldn't be some new trendy scent, something that went from season to season, and nothing too overpowering.  Every time I smell it, I think of her.  {Even though it's not what I wear daily...oops!}

Chapstick is a must have for me.  I can't stand dry lips and I put it on all day long and just before bed.  I have about 100 tubes.  Seriously.  Brand doesn't necessarily matter either, but Chapstick and Burt's are my 2 fave's.

Shoes.  In any form or fashion.

Kate Spade bags make me swoon.  I love the colors, the fun factor and the style of them.

Pens sounds silly, but oh so true.  A new pen that writes just perfectly can change my whole day.

Circle E Candles are the best!  Every time I light one and my home fills with the smell of Almond Creme Cake, I smile.

What are some of your favorite things?  Have a great weekend my friends!

Fun{ky} Filled Fridays

****Well leave it to me to get a system going and then realize my scheduled post didn't actually post...possibly user error...but I'm not copping to it.****

It's been a busy week in my world, and a slightly stressful one.  But having fun things to look at and plan sure helps a girl have a mental health break.  Did that make sense?  It did to me.

I found a new clothing store, too bad it's in Georgia.  Facebook can be a beautiful thing when you stumble on a gem like this.  You can find them here or on The Blue Door Boutique.  I'm completely smitten with this coat.

One thing keeping me busy is stocking my Etsy shop, Carolina Sunshine Designs.  I had tons of ideas for Valentine's and had to put them into action.  I get a huge kick out of the whole mustache trend and thought these would be super cute!

Feel free to stop by and take a look ;)

And take a peek around at all the Valentine's goodies while your on Etsy...seriously adorbs.  I mightpossibly be able to still get Caroline to wear this, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

And if I had a little boy, he would be totally rockin' this!

I'm really working on trying to be healthier...searching and hunting for information daily.  I'm really struggling with my skin and hair and it's making me crazy.  I've been looking for better ways to handle skincare and haircare.  I've read lots of articles about coconut oil.  Do you have any experience with using it for skin/hair care?

My favorite article you can read here.  And you can purchase it here.  Of course, it comes in all different sizes, so you don't have to buy the jumbo one to try it out.  Let me know if you've had any luck with coconut oil.  Or what works for you in the hair/skincare realm.

I hope to get back into the daily swing of this ole blog again soon!  I love looking back at our lives and how we've grown and changed over the years.  I'd love to have some feedback on things you like to see here ;)

Have a great weekend!

Rockin' the Peacock

Let me tell y'all, my Caroline...she just cracks me up!  I can't even begin to tell you how funny she's been this week!  I've tried to write down snippets, or keywords of things she's said or done, but...I have no clue what they mean!  It's been a long week!  Earlier in the week she went on and on about how some kids she knows spell Mississippi.  "...momma, some kids spell it like M-I-double S-I-double S-I-double P-I.  They don't really spell it, not like I do.  I spell it all out M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I."  And I have no idea what prompted this conversation either.  It was literally out of the blue, like it just popped into her little head.  And yesterday morning, she wakes up, like she wasn't really asleep, and just starts going.  She talked non-stop all the way from getting up until I dropped her off at school!  The very 1st thing she said to me yesterday morning was about how tired she was because she didn't sleep at all that night.  Yep, you heard me, she says she got no sleep last night!  What 7 year old says that?

Anyhoo on to the point of the post!  We get our prescriptions filled at Target, so when we're waiting on one, we wander around the store for a bit.  I've fallen in love with the Liberty of London stuff sprinkled throughout the store!  So cute!  I've been very good and refrained from buying it though...really I have!  And trust me, it's been hard!  But I started noticing a theme.

Do you see the ongoing theme here?   Now, I am not in any way knocking the Peacock pattern just so you know {Trina, I promise}!  It's just been showing up sooo many places lately.  I'm beginning to think it's a sign!  LOL!  Then another day I needed to run by the mall and get a new eyeshadow base, I use one that Clinique sells, thus the trip to the mall!  I hardly ever go to our mall...it's very small and has very limited selections, plus I never have the time!  So, back to the point, I was waiting to ask a saleslady for what I needed, and I was looking at the eye shadows...and I spot the most awesome, fun color ever!

I grabbed a q-tip and put a little on my hand to see if I liked it on.  It was such a great pop of color!  I thought, "hmmmm....would I really wear it though?".  I mean, I like bold colors, but I'm always a little chicken to try and pull them off.  But, it wasn't so bold that I thought it would just sit there unused!  So I said, "I think I'll take this color" to which the saleslady says to me, "OH!  Peacock!  You'd totally rock the Peacock...with your blonde hair and green eyes, yea, you'd rock the Peacock!"  So what does any 31 year old mom do when a young 20 something hip girl tells you that?  I bought the Peacock!!! LOL!  Now I'm not so sure about rockin' it, but I'm gonna give it a go!

But what makes this whole thing so off the wall for me is that I have a super sweet bloggy friend Trina, who writes Fabulously Frugalicious {well, I'm not sure if she calls it that anymore or not!}, who has been onto something for a long time!  She loves peacocks, and has such an amazing style!  I think she must have known that there would be a huge trend with her favorite thing!  But who could blame her?  The colors in a peacocks feathers are gorgeous!  Anyway, you should really stop by and say hello!  Not only does she have great style, but she's an awesome child of God, mom & wife, and a sweet southern girl!  Any way, you may wonder why I'm going on and on...well, since there has been all this peacock talk, and I've seen it so much lately, I bought a little lovely to share with her {you'll have to email me your info!}!  I'm not telling what it is...it's a surprise!  But sorry Trina, I will tell you that I didn't get you the Peacock eyeshadow...you're already a makeup junkie and I figured you already had a similar color!

What are your favorite things?  Things you adore?  Something that if you see the pattern, or color you just have to buy?  Or, your kids favorite?  Be looking for a post in the next week or so on mine and Caroline's favs!  Have a great weekend y'all!
