Start With a Bang

So many people do resolutions.  Do you?

I've never been much of a resolution girl.  Not that I think they're a bad thing, just not my thing.  I do however, think that we should be intentional with what we want our lives to hold for us.  Some of us want prosperity, some want a great family life, some want spiritual growth.

At the heart of it, I think we want all of those things.  I do.  But I also think we have to be very purposeful with our choices and how we go about meeting those goals in life.  I struggle with being purposeful.  I start out really great, then it always trails off.  So for now, I intend to be purposeful with my choices and really think before I act.  I want to be purposeful in my love for Jesus, I want to be purposeful in my marriage, I want to be purposeful regarding Caroline and the struggles we both face with her going back and forth to her dads.

I want to plan and prepare my business for growth, new adventures and more stability.  I want to quit caring so much about what people think about me and my life, and focus on being a bright spot for those in my life.  I have big plans for you, 2014.  Now to get busy.

Thought Filled Thursdays

Years ago, I took a day out of the week to post what I was thinking about, what I liked, make recommendations on things, etc...

I think to help me get back into the swing of things, I'm bringing back Thought Filled Thursdays...well, I'm changing it to Fridays and spicing up the name a bit.  I think a fun post to kick off the weekend is just what I'm looking for, so thus, the change.  So without further adieu...

******************************************************

Let me just say, if you've never picked up a Janet Evanovich book, stop what you're doing and go get this series, or at least the first book.  It's funny, witty, and there's a little bit of mystery to it.  I'm reading the latest addition:

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I'm a nail polish addict.  I'm really enjoying getting my (Julep) Maven Box each month and loving all the offerings they have.  I ordered the New Year's Box and one of the polishes I got was Eloise.  I love it. If you aren't a Maven and would like to join in the fun you can use this link and enter this referral code: 764456

Last year I jumped on the Tom's bandwagon.  Honestly, at first I wasn't in love with the look of them.  But they grew on me.  I took Caroline to get a pair and decided to try some on. I bought them on the spot and left with them on my feet.  Nordstrom ran this pic in a Facebook ad and I knew I wanted them.

The hubby and I have been on the hunt for a vintage camper for about a year.  We originally made up our minds about 2 years ago that we wanted to get one and refurbish it, but finally got serious about what we wanted.  Here are a few that we love.

We found one and the hubby's parents bought it!  We're helping them redo it while we're still looking for the perfect one for us.

Happy Hunting this weekend!  Hope you all see some fun{ky} finds!

The Lowdown

Hopefully, I'll be getting back to my regular blogging soon.  I can't believe how little I've blogged this year.  Makes me sad.  I really love having this record of our daily lives.

To fill you in on what's been going on around here, I plan on making several "catch up" posts {mostly for me} so that I can get back on track.  But for tonight, I'll leave you with the biggest change we've had.

I was really unhappy at work.  Between Caroline being sick, my pearly whites and all the time off that those require, I felt like it was time to make a change.  I quit my full-time job.  Scary.    But it has been the best decision for me.  I was under stress, getting depressed and needed to make a change.  We decided that it was time to really try and make a "go of it" with my photography/design business.  Thankfully I've had several shoots and have several booked!  I'm really blessed to have a husband that can provide for us while I pursue my dreams of being able to "stay home" and work!  I feel like I'm finally getting my head above the water!  I'm just praying that I'll be able to use the gifts God has given me to follow my dreams and be the best mommy and wife I can!  Hope y'all have a great week!

A Little Fun

I haven't posted about my recent hair adventures, and they have been many, but tonight I was just having some fun and thought I'd share.  I'm a natural blonde.  I get a few high/low lights twice a year and that's pretty much it.  About 4 years ago, I dyed my hair dark for the 1st time ever.  I did it again about a year & a half ago {remember Brenda?}.  About 6 weeks ago I was feeling a little need to get some of my low lights out of my hair.  Ready to be blonde blonde again!  I took it upon myself to do this myself...because I have a super cheap hubby who gets whiney when I go get my hair done to save a little money.  HA!  The joke was on me.  It was green.  And blue.  And completely awful.  And 10pm on a Friday night, which is good right?  Wrong.  Sadly I had 2 funerals to go to the next day, and I certainly couldn't go like that.  So I get in the car and drive to town {remember, I live outside of town, in the country} at 10pm to find a quick fix.  I ended up getting something super dark.  It was all I could think of to do.  I still haven't gotten used to it, and it makes me grumpy.  I'm just not a brunette.

So, last weekend I went and got it cut at a walk-in place.  Huge mistake #2.  Why am I doing this to myself?  I'm claiming temporary insanity.  I ended up with the worst cut.  I cried all the way home.  I feel like I have a girl mullet.  Serious shaping around my face, and its shorter around my face than I like.  Ugghhhhhh.  I told hubby that this is what happens when you don't go to your usual salon to get it done by the wonderful stylist who normally does your hair.  He actually agreed.  Needless to say, I'm off to the salon bright and early Saturday morning to get it fixed!!!  Yay me!!!

You can see how dark it is here...

I was playing around tonight with one of those virtual hair design things...

Whaddya think?  Cheesy right?  Although I kinda like the last 2, I just don't know what it would really look like on me!  I do know I'm definitely going back to blonde though!  Even though I know the quality of these looks isn't very good, what's your opinion on the short, short hair?  Does it even look right on me?  I've gained some weight so my face is pretty chubby right now and I'm not sure I could pull off anything that short?!?!?  Help!

A New Chapter

Many people look forward to the New Year so they can make changes, move forward with plans, start fresh.  All great things.  I usually don't make resolutions, or make much of a big deal out of the beginning of a new year, but this time around, we're jumping in.  Tab has some big things changing, we all do.  He worked for the city for 15 years, only had 5 more till he retired...at the age of 41.  Of course, he planned on doing something different after he retired!  Last March some things changed, he was moved around, and promises were made to him that were never kept.  Needless to say, he's been unhappy for a while.  Back in the summer, we thought about him changing careers before he retired.

When you've only been with a company for say 5 years, that's not such a big step, but only having 5 years till retirement...there's a lot to lose.  The city contributes to his 401k obviously, but municipalities don't only match 100%, they match 200%.  A lot to lose.  I know, I know, "money isn't everything", but when your future is depending on it, it makes a huge difference.

We have struggled with this so much over the past 6 months.  Not knowing what to do, what God's plan was for our family.  We've prayed about it, and then, when the possibility came up this summer for him to do something he loves, we really felt that God was leading where he wanted us to be.  After a month, things didn't work out, so we knew it wasn't the time.

All through October & November, things just kept on changing at work for Tab.  It was just getting to be so much.  He was on call every 2 weeks, for 2 weeks at a time.  Maintaining a decent sized city's 2 water plants is no small feat!  He was run down, and just so down in the dumps, it broke my heart.  I've always told him I would stand beside whatever decision he made, so you can only imagine my shock when he calls me on December 22nd, asking me what to do!  I was not quite prepared for it.  We decided it was best to just move on.  Start new.  So he resigned.  3 DAYS before Christmas!  Can we say WOW?

You ask what it is that he has a passion to do?  What are his plans?
Prepare yourselves, it sounds a little crazy.

He wants to drive a truck.  Yup, that's right...an 18 wheeler.  Holy Shenanigans!!!  I will never understand this.  He will be a 3rd generation "trucker".  His dad worked for years doing the same stuff Tab did with the city, then moved on to running huge projects as a foreman, and finally he wanted to drive.  I chalk it up to them being manly men!  LOL!  So we started looking into it.  I was shocked!  The benefits are amazing, the pay is great, and the opportunites are endless.  Not what I was expecting.  I guess I've always kind of been the snob when it came to a job like that.  You know, we all have a stereotype for certain things, and I certainly did with this.  But I think God has his own plans, and they are finally being brought to the forefront.

This is going to be such a hard change for us.  Most of the time you have to have 1-2 years of over the road experience, and although Tab has had his CDL {Commercial Driver's License} for over 15 years, he has never had a continuous 1-2 years long haul driving.  So, he will be on the road for the first year or so.  Gone for 2 weeks at a time and then only home for a few days.  We all 3 hate that!  I'm not quite sure how I'm going to deal with this.  He got a job offer, and if all goes well, he will start February 2nd.  He's already passed all the tests, and is just waiting on his physical to check out a-ok.

Please pray for us.  This is going to be a long road to travel...literally.  I just can't even imagine what this will be like, I just can't seem to wrap my mind around it.  I'm incredibly sad, but I know this is something he really wants to do.  I just pray that this is God's will for us, and that He knows best.  But why does it have to be so hard?
